Why an Orange T-Shirt?
Orange shirts are worn to honour Indigenous children who were taken from their families and forced into residential schools. The tradition began with Orange Shirt Day, inspired by Phyllis Webstad’s story of having her orange shirt taken away on her first day at a residential school.
Wearing orange is a way to remember the survivors, acknowledge the harm caused, and stand in solidarity with Indigenous communities on the path to truth and reconciliation
